What You Will Do 
As a Commodity Manager, you will be responsible for managing and developing our supplier base, including the direct management and development of Buyers within your assigned commodities. You will develop and execute sourcing strategies, encompassing supplier selection, negotiating agreements, establishing pricing, and executing various types of contracts. You will be accountable for the overall supplier performance in terms of quality, delivery, cost, and innovation. 
 
Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Lead and Develop Buyers: Directly manage, mentor, and guide a team of Buyers responsible for tactical purchasing activities within your assigned commodities, ensuring their performance aligns with strategic goals. 
  • Build and Manage Supply Base: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure a robust and reliable supply chain. 
  • Drive Cost Reduction Projects: Identify, lead, and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality, often delegating and overseeing Buyer-led initiatives. 
  • Define and Implement Sourcing Strategies: Create and execute effective sourcing strategies for new and existing programs, delegating specific tactical execution to Buyers. 
  • Manage Work Transfer Projects: Oversee work transfer projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget, with Buyers supporting execution. 
  • Conduct Supplier Business Reviews: Perform regular strategic reviews of supplier performance and manage action plans for improvement, leveraging data and input from Buyers. 
  • Risk Mitigation and Corrective Actions: Identify potential risks, implement mitigation strategies, and manage root cause corrective actions across your commodity, guiding Buyers in their issue resolution. 
  • Supplier Capacity Planning: Monitor and drive supplier capacity planning to adapt to program rate changes and component obsolescence, collaborating with Buyers on execution. 
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor overall supplier performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives within your commodity. 
  • Develop Requests for Proposal/Quotes: Lead the creation and management of RFP/RFQ processes, evaluate proposals, and conduct contract negotiations. 
  • Resolve Complex Supplier Issues: Address and resolve any complex or escalated supplier-related issues promptly, providing guidance to Buyers on lower-level issues. 
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, Quality, Production, Planning, Finance) and provide strategic support to the broader Purchasing organization. 

Preferred Education & Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Operations management or Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience 
  • 5 or more years of industry related experience within Purchasing and Supply Chain, including demonstrated experience managing or leading direct reports. 
  • Proficient in ERP and PLM systems. 
  • Experience with commercial electronic components. 

 

Specialized Skills and Abilities  

  • Proven leadership and team development skills, with experience coaching and mentoring direct reports. 
  • Strong data analysis skills to drive sourcing strategy and problem-solving. 
  • Experience in contracting and strategic sourcing projects. 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Frequent use of personal computers, database and digital platforms, and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machines and computer printers. 
  • Frequently move inside the office. 
  • Frequent close vision and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Occasionally use of steps or ladder. 
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. 

 

Work Environment 
This job operates in a professional office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.  Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% of the time. 
 
Salary Range 
Please note the typical hiring range is $120,000 - $175,000 annually. Job offers within the range are based on significant job qualifications and pay equity.
